QuImpact gGmbH is a non-profit technical service provider that helps translate nutrition science and technology into measurable public health impact. We work at the intersection of data, systems, and implementation to strengthen nutrition programs where they matter most: bridging the gap between innovation and action.
For over two decades, BioAnalyt has led innovation in micronutrient testing with its portable, user-friendly device iCheck, transforming how food and health products are monitored globally. Now, building on this legacy, we proudly introduce QuImpact.
This article talks about how QuImpact gGmbH bridges the gap between technological innovation and practical implementation in nutrition programs. By offering tailored technical services, capacity building, and digital tools, QuImpact turns scientific knowledge into a real-world public health impact, especially in low-resource settings.
The Challenge: When Tools Alone Aren’t Enough
In our work with governments, NGOs, and development agencies, a recurring problem became clear: while having the right tools like iCheck is vital, they aren’t sufficient on their own. In many low-resource or complex environments, programs struggle with:
- Inadequate infrastructure
- Gaps in technical capacity
- Fragmented systems for collecting and using data
The result? Valuable data often goes underused, and nutrition programs risk falling short not from lack of effort, but from lack of systems that bridge knowledge and action.
Why QuImpact Was Founded
BioAnalyt addressed part of this challenge by delivering fast, accurate field-testing tools. But to fully unlock impact, we needed to ensure that these tools were embedded in strong systems, local skills, and context-specific strategies.
That’s why BioAnalyt supported the creation of QuImpact: to provide the training, technical support, and programmatic expertise needed to make nutrition interventions effective on the ground.
Founded by Prof. Dr. Florian Schweigert, QuImpact operates as an independent non-profit, working alongside public and private partners to strengthen the design, delivery, and evaluation of nutrition programs worldwide.
What We Do: Services that Bridge Science and Implementation
QuImpact specializes in turning data into decisions, combining technical rigour with field-tested practicality. Our core services include:
- Technical Training: We deliver expert-led training on micronutrient testing and quality assurance methods, ranging from qualitative screening to laboratory-grade analytics. Training includes:
- Sampling and interpretation techniques
- Rapid and quantitative test methods
- Method validation (precision, variability, recovery, robustness)
- Data reporting and decision-making
- Studies & Assessments: We support the design and execution of:
- Market-level assessments
- Household nutrition surveys
- Baseline and endline studies.
Our focus is on robust methodology and actionable insights to guide effective program implementation.
- Feasibility Testing: We assess and validate analytical methods for specific food vehicles and contexts, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with public health goals. We also support innovative product testing and improvement.
- New Method Development: We design and develop novel analytical methods tailored to the evolving needs of the nutrition and food fortification (FF) sectors. Our innovations fill gaps in existing approaches and ensure accessibility, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Digitalization & Innovation: We build digital tools and customize Large Language Model (LLM) technologies to improve knowledge transfer, data sharing, and program transparency. Our tools support:
- Real-time data collection and analysis
- Streamlined reporting workflows
- Smarter, faster decision-making
- Advisory & Consulting: From program design to quality assurance and evaluation, we offer advisory services tailored to your needs. Whether you’re a development agency, government, or private sector stakeholder, we help navigate technical and operational challenges with clarity.
Our Work in Action
- Capacity Building in West Africa: Technical training of over 250 professionals in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Togo
on effective FF monitoring, strengthening regional capacity for quality assurance and regulatory oversight.
- Rapid Market Assessment: Piloting a rapid, cost-efficient, scalable approach to test the quality of fortified foods at the market level, as well as assessment of the performance of local analytical solutions. Applied in Indonesia, Kenya, and India, this method has the potential to deliver fast, actionable results to improve program response times.
- iCheck Modular Development: Next-generation portable devices for rapid testing of key micronutrients and food quality. iCheck Modular offers a connected, cost-effective, and versatile solution for on-site quality control, redefining how fortification and food quality are monitored globally.
- The Lighthouse Project: Part of the Digital Fortification Quality Traceability Plus (DFQT+) initiative, this project connects iCheck Modular data via the iCheck Connect app to a cloud-based platform. It demonstrates how digital systems can enhance compliance, accountability, and real-time monitoring across the FF value chain.
- AOAC Certification: AOAC Performance Tested certification of iCheck Modular methods for streamlining method adoption and eliminating the need for lengthy local validations. This accelerates quality control of fortified foods worldwide.
Looking Ahead: A Call to Collaborate
The future of global nutrition depends not just on innovation, but on collaboration. Whether you’re implementing nutrition programs or developing policies to support food safety and quality, QuImpact is here to help you turn potential into progress. By linking science, systems, and strategy, we ensure that no tool works in isolation and no opportunity to improve lives is missed.
