Second Global Summit on Food Fortification

6 November 2020. The Second Global Summit on Food Fortification will take place online this year, and will precede the Micronutrient Forum event. This high-level political event is being organized with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, DSM, UNICEF, the World Food Programme, and other prominent players in the sector. The Summit is a focal point of worldwide efforts to invigorate interest, awareness, and investment in large-scale food fortification and biofortification – two population-based interventions with enormous potential to reduce and prevent micronutrient deficiencies globally. 17 - 19 September 2019 - Lagos & Owerri, NIGERIA Strengthening African Processors of Fortified Foods SAPFF Workshops, convened by TechnoServe in partnership with BASF and BioAnalyt, will take place in Lagos and Owerri, Nigeria on 17 & 19th of September 2019. Vegetable oil fortification is one of the most cost-effective strategies to reduce vitamin A deficiency in humans – a main cause behind infant mortality, weak immune systems and night blindness with all its consequences, affecting 16 million children in Nigeria.Two regional workshops will take place for Edible Oil processors to improve their capacity to produce fortified foods in order to ensure that people receive the nutrients they need to improve their quality of life.

WFP Innovation Bootcamp

13 - 17  May 2019 - MUNICH, GERMANY. BioAnalyt is one of eight companies which have been shortlisted out of about 900 applications for the WFP Innovation Bootcamp  in Munich, Germany. This Innovation Bootcamp which is sponsored by Cargill, will be held at the WFP Innovation Accelerator in Munich. Selected teams will deep dive field-level challenges, ideate solutions and refine project plans. The participants will also be introduced to cutting-edge innovation techniques, such as human-centered design and lean start-up methodologies. The intense, week-long bootcamp culminates with Pitch Night which creates an  ideal opportunity for teams to share their solutions with an audience of investors and industry leaders who can help them bring the innovations to scale. In this bootcamp BioAnalyt will embark on an intensive 5-day journey with guidance from mentors with deep knowledge and expertise in technology, business and innovation to ideate solutions, and refine our innovative solution in contribution to the fulfillment of SDG 2 of Zero Hunger. Fortification Quality Convening by BMGF and WFP Accelerator

24 - 25  April 2019 - MUNICH, GERMANY. In late April, BioAnalyt participated in a challenge workshop hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and WFP Innovation Accelerator. The goal of the workshop was to critically assess the root causes of failure in the quality of fortified foods and brainstorm innovative solutions to overcome these challenges. The workshop used a design-thinking format, which helped the group to develop a collective understanding and converge on solution spaces to improve impact. BioAnalyt’s Dr. Anna Zhenchuk participated in this workshop and provided critical thinking around challenges faced in lab capacity and food testing as well as data management and communication. The workshop concluded with the key 5 bold steps that need to take place along the food fortification value chain and you can read the full workshop report here. BioAnalyt will be contributing to capturing  quality data with our Connected iCheck and local training centers. We look forward to sharing more details of new alliances and solutions soon!

Technical Consultation on Regulatory Monitoring Policy Priorities for Improving Fortification Compliance

26th- 27th April 2017 - LONDON, UK To address this specific challenge of defining a harmonized approach to fortification compliance that takes into account the reality of limited resources, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Project Healthy Children (PHC), and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) convened a Technical Consultation Meeting from 26-27 April 2017 in London. The organizing institutions proposed priority topics and meeting facilitators refined these topics through a consultative process prior to the meeting. The Technical Consultation brought together 35 technical experts and national program leaders with varied experience in the implementation and monitoring of national-level fortification programs.
